the green meanie

I finally took the time to start laying out my quilt and sewing the strips together.  I started out not really thinking about the block placement and three strips and 2 blocks in I thought, "Shoot I should probably be thinking about this a little more than I am."
That's when I decided to lay it all out and really think about where things were going to go so that none of the same fabrics would be touching. I started putting numbers on the rows so that I would know what was what and then filled in the empty spots with the rest of my blocks. It worked really really well and led to to discover that in my not thinking about it I had done this:

Totally lame! I took it apart and found a new home for one of the blocks. Really excited about finishing this project and starting a new one. I have so many ideas for more quilts and some garments as well. My next quilt is going to be an argyle done with diamonds and not squares and I am really excited about it. It will be super warm and cozy with tons of flannel. After that I plan on attempting to create a quilt with a bunch of bee blocks, not quilt bee, but bumble bee. I am going to try and design it myself and create a ton of really cute fat buzzing bees I will keep you updated on that one.

And cozy backing fabric for my green patchwork quilt made big so you can see. I think this finishing steps and the whole quilt sandwich is really terrifying I am going to have to get some help or at least guidance with that bit of it.

In other news Halloween is coming and this is the first year ever that I get to decorate my own place. The BF and I decided that it would be our holiday and that we would go all out for it.  Just you wait!

quilt update

So I finished by blocks last week and bought the backing fabric and batting yesterday. I am ready to sew the top together and then make my quilt sandwich, the only thing is that I am super nervous because I don't really know how to do any of this, I am either going to use the internet as my resource or go to a friend because I really don't want to mess this up after putting so much effort into the quilt.

Here are two of my completed blocks.

In other news... I found the quilt that I want to start next and my boyfriend wants to help pick out the fabrics for that one, and help me sew it!! I am totally excited that he wants to help that much in this next one.

I also am in a quilting bee now, which is awesome, I will be making a star block for our October leader and am really excited about it. I think that I will really like doing this quilt swap thing.

Also no one has signed up for my Pay it Forward and that makes me really sad. Today at Joann Fabrics they were having this HUGE sale in honor of Columbus day. I got some $16 patterns for a whopping $0.99!! I also picked up the book Embroidered Effects by Jenny Hart for 50% off, which is quite a steal considering you can't get it for that cheap even on Amazon.

Speaking of books I ordered some quilting ones from Amazon so that I can perhaps learn a bit more before finishing my current one and starting my next one. I ordered The Quilting Bible, One Line at a Time, and Foolproof Machine Quilting.

But now off to bed because tomorrow I plan on getting up early and starting to sew together my quilt block and start on my star block for the quilting bee.

Gifting

So I finished my matchbox drawers last night and decided to give it to a girl that I work with because her birthday was yesterday, I think that she really really appreciated it.

Here is the final outcome

And here it is with the drawers open

For the little feet I super-glued a few buttons together, I think it looks really really cute.

And the best news is that she really really liked it and appreciated it, unlike the last time I gifted this special set of drawers.
Speaking of gifting I would really love to make some wonderful stuff for three lucky people, but no one has signed up for my Pay it Forward. I would really really like to make stuff for you, so please sign up.

My goal for the two days off is to finish my blocks and start laying out where I want the blocks to go...ahh I need to decide on a backing fabric as well....I am thinking brown....hmm.
