Pay it Forward!!!

Wow I feel so privileged that I am able to participate in something like this, this will be really really awesome.

And So I hope that this works out well I already have some great ideas for my Pay it Forward for Kim, but all I need now are three people to accept my offer. I hope that the word gets out there because I am new to this whole blogging thing, but hopefully this will put me in touch with some new blogs and new people in touch with mine.

< I am borrowing this part from John from Quilt Dad because he worded it so perfectly.> If you would like to receive a handmade gift from me, and are willing to make and send a handmade gift along to three of your blog readers, please let me know in my comments. Once you accept, you will receive something from me within 365 days. In turn, you will have 365 days to fulfill your end of the bargain.

So all I need is three of you to tell me that you want in. Let me know!

Quilt 1.0

My first quilt.

For Christmas last year my mom bought me a sewing machine. And my grandma got me a ton of fabric to start a quilt. I was really really excited but needed the right pattern to use the fabric's with. This was quite a challenge seeing as how I am new at the quilting thing and needed something that was fairly easy, but also I needed something that would showcase the fabrics and fit with what I had in mind.

After searching for quite some time I found my pattern in Quick Quilts magazine, issue number 96 to be exact. Here is a picture of the finished quilt from the magazine (not my quilt).

I really like the way that this quilt looks, and I really like how my squares are looking with the fabrics I have.

I have 16 blocks done and as you can see a whole lot more to go. But I am doing it and that is something!

Here are my blocks that are done.Multimedia message

And here are my planned blocks that need to be done.Multimedia message

I love the fabrics in this quilt! Green is one of my favorite colors and with all the fabrics there is a real earth vibe and I really like that. Unfortunately I don't know many of the fabrics designers but have been looking through my scraps in hopes of finding the names on the edges of some of those pieces.

Many of the fabrics are JoAnn Fabrics and I did find that at least 4 of them are done by Timeless Treasures Fabrics from their Contemporary Line, including my one of my favorites.

My goal is to get this finished by Christmas and I don't think that will be a problem since I have so much inspiration from people like Quilt Dad and Rachel Griffith at P.S. I Quilt and many others.

Off to work on my next block

matchbox drawers

So a long time ago I made this really neat set of drawers from matchboxes that I covered with paper and made look real cute. I gave it away as a gift only to have it mistreated and not cared about, oh well.

I was recently telling a friend about this and decided to make a new one and either keep it for myself or give it to someone that I know will appreciate the art of handmade gifts. I for one know that I would love to receive a gift like this one.

So you start out with those tiny matchboxes and you cover the outside, and then you cover the inside and then you use a metal brad and some ribbon to make a drawer pull. Here is one of the drawers, I think this was my favorite of the ones I have made so far.

And here are all the boxes that I have made so far. I think that I will either add 4 more for another level in the drawers or I will finish it up like this and start a new one.
